Museum of Iron Ore Mining

Underground corridors caved in the Stanisław Staszic Park are the model of the most characteristic excavations for iron ore mining. The visitors have access to the headings in wooden and steel linings, a pump room and a piece of a mining longwall with miners’ workstations. The exhibition includes locomotives, mining fleet and loading machines which represent the horizontal transportation in the mine as well as elements of vertical transportation:   a piece of a pit cage, a tachograph. The exhibition room presents sets of tools and equipment which miners used for work in the past, lighting used underground, drilling machines, stroke hammers, rescue equipment, a drawing machine and a 19th-century carriage for ore transportation. The Museum of Iron Ore Mining is an institution of the Museum of Częstochowa.

Route chronicle

One hundred years ago, on 12 June 1910, in the park in Częstochowa, where the Museum of Iron Ore Mining is situated, a pompous party for children was to be held. Unfortunately, despite large attendance, the plan was thwarted by a downpour. According to “Częstochowa Newspaper” dated 13 June 1910: “As amateur astronomers definitely predicted that it would not stop raining, it was decided to cancel the party, or to postpone it, to be more precise, although around 7 p.m. it cleared up entirely, to the shame of false prophets”.

In the Jasna Góra Treasury in Częstochowa, there are begging and thanksgiving offerings which were made to Our Lady by pilgrims who have been visiting the shrine from the late Middle Ages to modern times. Among the votive offerings, we can see both masterpieces of art - royal or papal gifts - and modest items bearing the emotional value. The oldest ones are from the fourteenth century.
